Ryan Masters, Monterey County Weekly, October 15th, 2008
2009 was a good year for artists and supporters of the arts in Monterey County. While many of us are tightening our belts, cutting budgets and struggling to economize, artists in all disciplines are producing new work of extraordinary depth and magnanimity. In fact, the year’s best art and theater—full-blown and brimming with oomph—is a welcome antidote to these lean economic times.
There was a great generosity of spirit, an exuberance of visual language and imagination, a sense of expansiveness, even gusto, in this year’s exhibits and programs at the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts.
Even as the country remains mired in a recession, the community’s artists seem to be loosening the stays on their imagination and allowing for a long night’s work ahead. This is a happy development indeed. It would not, however, be possible without your support.
Also, the Monterey County Weekly Community Fund will match your tax-deductible donation to the Cherry Center for any contribution made by December 31, 2009 (up to $100,000 total match).
