Echoes of the Trail
an Evening of Stories, Song and the Poetry of the American West
Friday, April 2nd, 7:30pm
Echoes of the Trail, an evening of stories, song and the poetry of the American West, will be held Friday, April 2nd at the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts. Poet Taelen Thomas joins singing cowboy George Stumpff in a celebration of old-time cowboy song and verse.
Directly related musically to old English, Scottish, and Irish folk ballads, cowboy music celebrates the life of the cowboy on the open ranges and prairies of Western North America. Much of what is known as "old time" country music originates from the rhyming couplet style often seen in cowboy poetry along with guitar music.
Taelen Thomas is a teacher, orator, actor, poet and impersonator. He was a middleweight boxer in the mid-1960s, but is best-known for his poetry and impersonations of historical figures and writers.
George Stumpff lives on a ranch outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he works as cowboy, mountain guide, musician and artist. Recording under the name of G.W. Julian Stumpff recorded two albums that reached the charts in fifteen European countries.
This program is made possible, in part, through a grant from the Arts Council for Monterey County through funds from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors, the Community Foundation for Monterey County, the Harden Foundation and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Youth Fund.
